I know both moms and seniors alike are filled with endless questions about the Senior Portrait Experience and I totally understand!
It can be stressful and overwhelming but in the same time it's beautiful, empowering and unique experience for the seniors.
I have put together a detailed guidance to make the entire planning process as smooth as possible.
Below you will find some of the most FAQs I have come up with based on the usual questions I get.
I am here to help you and be your guide so that is not an overwhelming process for neither of you as a senior or as a mom.
It can depend on many factors. Firstly do you want both studio and on location? If only studio then you can book a session any time from the beginning of your senior year up until about March the latest. If you want only on location, then the next question would be if you want the images look more like fall, or spring scenery with green surroundings. If you are thinking more of a fall look, then suggesting to book any time up to November into the senior year. If going for the spring look, then of course booking the earlier is the better, but no later than March to ensure you don't miss out on a date and you can receive your products back in time for graduation announcements and the party. More on this in the next coming questions.
Depending on the Session you choose, they will typically last between 1-4 hours! This is from the moment we meet up at the set location, look through your outfits and start shooting!
If it's only studio session I generally start around 10 am, but can be arranged differently. I have my day open for you so depending on the look you are going for (indoor only, outdoor only, or both) I can be flexible and this will part of our consultation after getting to know what you have in mind. Most of my outdoor only sessions start about 2-3 hours before sunset. I do love sunrise sessions as well where the light is just incomparable divine! I will only shoot one session in a day, so your session is exclusive to that time of day and you will be my only client. This is how I can assure you have my full attention during your session.
Spring outdoor senior portraits starts around early-mid April. Summer night sessions are spectacular and can be shot after work hours – this is a plus! Fall outdoor sessions are also very popular for seniors. The changing colors and crispy air offer a beautiful colorful backdrop of muted tones. As I have mentioned above it really depends how you are envisioning your senior session; do you want to wear a flowy dress, sandals and have bare arms? Maybe wear shorts? Or do you want to wear sweaters, jackets and pants? When you plan ahead, you can start thinking abou this most importantly.
In the fall there are only a few weeks when the foliage is at its peak of fall colors. If you are going for the fall scenery as your backdrop, I highly recommend booking as far in advance as possible. If you are well prepared, booking before summer is recommended so you have the advantage of getting your favorite date. Consider your upcoming schedule with new classes, college applications and even yearbook deadlines! This senior portrait experience is a process that takes time and I don't like to rush! Don’t wait to book last minute!
I am primary a studio portrait photographer, but seniors love outdoor settings more or a mix of both. I like to stay local around Amador County, but if you have a specific place you’d love to have your senior session done, then I’m totally open to shooting wherever you’d like! If you want urban look, we have great spots around Sutter Creek, Jackson or other small towns near by. For outdoor locations from the great hills, to fields, lakes we have it all in Amador County. Tell me what you envision and I am happy to scout out new locations for your visual needs.
I generally suggest at least three to four outfits. Depending on the session, you have more opportunity to bring more outfits and in turn have more variety to showcase! If you are mixing studio and outdoor, 2 indoor, and 2 outdoor is great, as remember, the star of the day is you and not the outfit! It is there to enhance your beauty, and also to showcase your different personality and interest. ( if playing sports, do you want to incorporate the uniform, jackets?Do you have your gown and cap you would love a traditional studio shot or even outside? )
It is not a must, by any means, but the impact that professional hair and makeup has on your senior portrait experience is unmatched! I have a Hair and Makeup artist I have been working with for over 5 years who will do your makeup in a very natural and fresh-faced style that enhances your natural beauty – not changes you! I still want you to look your age! I know that getting professional makeup done can be daunting at times because you think you won’t feel like yourself, but you’ll be in the best hands. Promise. You are also welcome to do your own makeup, and I will guide you on this, so it won't be too overwhelming and taking away from your natural beauty.
Yes, yes, and YES! This is a great idea to get your entire family involved. Your daughter or son is graduating from Highschool, so what better time than now to get updated family portraits done during this season of your family’s life! I offer special add-on packages for this type of session – add to that, the fact that you can actually use these for you Holiday Cards this year! Please inquire.
It is so important to print your photos with a company that will render your colors and tones correctly. You don’t want to have a beautiful digital image only to print it at a local drugstore and have blueish skin or a print that will change color and fade in a couple of years! My digital files come with a Print Release and will be delivered through my online gallery which is attached to the same professional lab I use, and you are more than welcome to place your order online and expect the same professional quality.
Selecting photos to be printed is such an exciting part of the process. You already hired a professional photographer. You don’t want to just keep those photos in your computer, you want to show them off in your home and gift them to the special people in your lives!
The Senior Portrait Experience booking fee is $299. This includes your complimentary consultation through zoom, or facetime, guides throughuot the planning process with all the information you’ll need to know about styling your outfits, hair & makeup, the shoot, professional editing of your images and a private online gallery. The session fee is non-refundable, and this assures you have your selected date reserved just for you.
The session fee doe not include any physical or digital products, that must be purchased separately. The collections include both printed products and high-resolutions digital images. You are also able to purchase A-la-Carte products.
I will keep your files on a Hard Drive for one year from the date of your session. At any point during that year, you can purchase additional products or the entire digital collection if you have not done so. Please feel free to reach out to me. I look forward to working with you.
